• AC motors are most efficient when powered by clean sinusoidal electricity.
• VSDs/Solar Drives generate square waves that are modulated such that their pulse width can be changed continually.
• VSDs/Solar Drives maintain excellent control over the width and amplitude of square waves, resulting in good approximations of sine waves (as seen on an oscilloscope).
• However, even the most advanced VSDs/Solar Drives cannot approach the purity of a pure sine wave.
• Installing a sine wave filter between the VSD/Solar Drive and the motor' smooths' the PWM signal of the VSD/Solar Drive and converts it into a nearly perfect sinusoidal power wave form.
