  Description: AC motors are most efficient when powered by clean sinusoidal electricity. VSDs/Solar Drives generate square waves that are modulated such that their pulse width can be changed continually. VSDs/Solar Drives maintain excellent control over the width and amplitude of square waves, resulting in good approximations of sine waves (as seen on an oscilloscope). However, even the most advanced VSDs/Solar Drives cannot approach the purity of a pure sine wave. Installing a sine wave filter between the VSD/Solar Drive and the motor' smooths' the PWM signal of the VSD/Solar Drive and converts it into a nearly perfect sinusoidal power wave form.
