Description: A Variable Speed Drive (VSD) converts a fixed-frequency alternating current (AC) source into a variable-frequency AC supply. This regulates power consumption and mechanical power output, allowing the motor to operate at the most efficient speed for both the motor and the process. Motor speed can be controlled based on process feedback, such as flow rate, temperature, or pressure, resulting in improved process control. This allows for exact regulation of the motor speed across a wide range. As a result, VSDs provide extremely fine electrical motor control, allowing motor speeds to be ramped up and down while remaining at the appropriate speeds. Motors use only the energy required, rather than running at a constant (fixed) speed and consuming an excess of energy.
