UM8272A Floppy Disk Controller (FDC)

Description: This integrated circuit comprises the logic and control capabilities required for linking a processor with up to four floppy disk drives. It supports IBM-compatible formats in both single and double density recording, making it appropriate for a wide range of disk-based applications. Memory Storage: Supports both IBM 3740 single density and IBM System 34 double density formats, including double-sided recording. Data records can be 128, 256, 512, or 1024 bytes long. Multi-Sector and Multi-Track Transfers: Capable of efficiently transferring across sectors and tracks. DMA and Non-DMA Modes: Supports both Direct Memory Access (DMA) and Non-DMA activities. Control Signals: Provides control signals that aid in the construction of an external phase-locked loop and PR compensation circuitry. Clock Speed: Runs on a single-phase 8MHz clock. Power Supply: Only one +5V power supply is required. Available in common IC packages to provide interoperability with a variety of systems.
